prisoners. 3. In the informations which I ordered to be taken from the wives of the prisoners, I have to state that when the informations were taken these latter did not know of the statement given by the former, and neither one nor the other know anything of the informations which have been given by the Missionary three years ago, and I found the statement of the three perfectly agreeing.
I come now to the facts. From the scanty informations which transpired in the local Press about this case I came to know that the evidence taken on the former sitting went to show that an armed attack was made on a family by about 24 men, four of its members being set upon at one time. These four men were the grandfather, the uncle, and the two elder brothers of the witnesses called. One brother recovered from his wounds, the other died next day. The witnesses identified eleven of the prisoners as having taken part in the attack; and said the other two had no share in it.
On the next sitting of the Police Court we read in the Daily Press: "The evidence of the man who was wounded but recovered was taken to the effect already stated. A crowd of about 24 men came to his house and attacked his grandfather, uncle, brother, and himself. He identified all the prisoners but two, and said the eleventh and twelfth men took no part in the attack."
Now I submit that the above
